Document Translation · Tsim Sha Tsui

Two languages, set side by side, read as one document.

Lingara is a small studio of working translators. We pair linguists to your subject, build a glossary that holds across files, and review every page twice before it leaves the desk.

Why the studio works this way

Translation is a craft, and craft shows on the page.

Our method foregrounds the work itself: paired linguists, written glossaries, two passes of review, and document layouts that survive the move between languages.

Linguist pairing by subject

Files are matched to translators with a working background in the subject — finance documents to a finance hand, contracts to a legal hand.

Glossaries that stay with you

Terminology choices are written down on the first file and carried forward, so a phrase rendered one way in March reads the same way in November.

Two-pass review

A second linguist reads the draft against the source, line by line, before a final formatting pass returns the file to its original layout.

Format kept faithful

Tables, footnotes, and headings are preserved where the file format allows. Bilingual documents are returned in matched typographic measure.

Confidentiality, written down

Every linguist signs a confidentiality undertaking. Files are held on encrypted storage in Hong Kong and removed on a schedule after delivery.

Honest turnarounds

We quote the time the work actually takes — including review — and tell you when a deadline is too tight rather than agreeing and cutting corners.

Common questions

Before you send the file

Which language pairs do you cover? +

Our regular working pairs are English with Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Other pairs can be arranged through our wider linguist network — write in with the pair and subject and we will tell you what is workable.

How long does a Standard Document Translation take? +

For files up to 3,000 words, the usual turnaround is three to five working days, depending on subject density and queue. We confirm a date with the quote rather than a fixed promise upfront.

What file formats do you accept? +

DOCX, PDF, RTF, TXT, ODT, and most spreadsheet formats. Scans and image-only PDFs require an extra step to extract text, and we will note that on the quote. We try to return the document in the same format it arrived in.

How is pricing decided? +

Standard documents are charged at HKD 880 per file up to 3,000 words. Bilingual reviews are HKD 2,400 per document. The Subject-Specialist Programme is HKD 7,500 as a 12-month retainer covering a defined volume of work — we discuss volume and subject before signing.

How do you handle confidential material? +

A non-disclosure undertaking is in place with every linguist on our roster. Files sit on encrypted storage in Hong Kong, access is logged, and we remove files from active storage thirty days after delivery unless you ask otherwise. We can sign your NDA if preferred.

Can you certify a translation for official use? +

Yes — we can issue a signed and stamped certificate of translation accuracy on studio letterhead, suitable for many administrative and immigration purposes in Hong Kong. For sworn or notarised translation, we work with an external notary on referral.

Can I see a sample before committing? +

For larger engagements, we are happy to translate a short representative passage at no cost so you can read the voice. For single-document work, the quote itself is the commitment point — we send a turnaround date and price for written agreement.
